I completely forgot to add in the videos in my last post!
I'm so fobtastic. No box for you! haha
This next video was when she was just starting to crawl. *sigh* she's growing so fast!! she's already mastered crawling..
My beautiful baby is now starting to experience separation anxiety. It's not too bad yet, and I hope it doesn't get any worse but better from here on out.
Two weeks ago, on my way to church, I met a lovely couple on the subway. They were here visiting Korea for the first time. Yesterday, I had the chance to hang out with them at the National Museum of Korea. I think we talked more than really enjoy the museum. bah. The man, who is a Korean adoptee, was talking about how he experienced racism as a child and teased about how he looked. It took him a while to accept who he is and his physical appearance. He shared that it's quite upsetting to see how people here change their appearances so thoughtlessly when he had fought so hard to be accepted and accept who he is based on his looks. Koreans who live in Korea who don't have to deal with racism and discrimination do everything to change their appearance while not knowing the comfort of living amongst those that look like them. Koreans and other minorities in other parts of the world on the other hand have to deal with discrimination still in the twenty-first century for looking the way they do--for being different. As someone who is generally against cosmetic surgery, I have found another reason to dislike it through this couple I have met. It especially pisses me off when people like to say in their oh-so-sweet voice "Ohhhhh~ Luna has such ugly hands!!" And apparently, the expected reaction from me is, "Her toes are even uglier than her hands!!" WTF. REALLY? Well, I think you're rude as hell and I think you have the most ugliest teeth and a dead animal on your head for hair, but you don't hear me commenting on that, do you?! ugh. I hate that aspect of Korean culture. In addition to that, about a month ago, Luna developed the double eyelid only on one eye and what do people say? "Oh Luna, you just saved your parents half the cost of the double eyelid surgery!!" And then my thought to them is "I'm sorry there isn't anything to change your etiquette or a surgery to sew your mouth shut permanently." Ugh. This is why I do not have Korean Korean friends.
Now, on a totally different topic.
I think I've mentioned that I've met quite a few people through my friend, Nathalie... or maybe I didn't? I can't remember. But Nathalie, I swear, knows half of all the foreigners here in Korea. She's been my source of new mommy information and new mommy friends. In addition, I've been finding more blogs, groups, and services here in Korea. I swear I will get to making a Links page soon.. I've just been so forgetful and busy! But one of the things that Nathalie does is she sells cloth diapers called Chubby Cherry. Chubby Cherry diapers are not pocket diapers. In fact, you just kind of lay the insert on the cover and that's it. It's a snap system so it's one size fits all. I actually don't have much to compare to other than the other cloth diaper that I am using, Cocalo Perfect Bum. But the two are so different in design and ideal use that it's rather not fair to compare. The Perfect Bum is a pocket diaper so the idea is that you buy a couple of the covers and a fair amount of the inserts. You just switch out the inserts. You would change the cover too only if it got wet as well. The Chubby Cherry is designed so that ideally, you would change the cover as well, more often than you would change the pocket diaper cover. Hence, the initial overhead cost for the Chubby Cherry would be higher since you can expect to change your baby 7-8 times a day, so you need 7-8 covers and diapers per day. Since you won't be washing the diapers everyday, but rather every three days or so, you would need to purchase three to four days worth of diapers (the fourth day would be the day that the diapers would be drying if you line dry them). With the Perfect Bum, I use about two covers a day (sometimes more if I didn't put the diaper on right or if I was late in changing the diaper) and about seven inserts. Hence, if I were to wash every three days, I would need about 7-8 covers and 28-32 inserts. But if you were to really compare the costs, it evens out because Chubby Cherry is a heck of a lot cheaper than most well known diaper systems.
Comparing the two, I like the Chubby Cherry covers better because it fits snug enough on Luna's butt so that she doesn't look like she always has poo in her diaper but still loose enough for circulation. In other words, it's not too bulky. Also, I don't know about other pocket diapers but the elastic around the liner in the Perfect Bum covers always gets wet when Luna pees. So her diaper cover isn't "clean" when I change the insert. The liner itself airs out really fast even if it did get wet, but the elastic doesn't air/dry out in a matter of seconds like the liner. So I'm essentially putting on a partially wet diaper back on her. ewww...I would hate that feeling! However, as for the insert, I like the Perfect Bum insert better. It's a three panel insert where the other panels are terry cloth and the middle is mostly polyester. The polyester side would be the side that touches the butt so that it isn't cold and wet to the touch. Chubby Cherry inserts are one panel terry cloths that can be inserted into the diaper cover if you want but that's a bit of a hassle so I think most people would just lay it on instead. That means that if it gets wet, it feels wet on the baby's bottom instead of wicking the moisture away. So I prefer to use the Perfect Bum inserts with the Chubby Cherry covers. It is bulkier than if I were to use the Chubby Cherry inserts, but it's still less bulkier than using the Perfect Bum covers. Nathalie is going to look into modifying the inserts and when she does, I would be happy to try them out and review them again.
With us, we actually don't have three days worth of diapers. We have two Perfect Bum covers, one Chubby Cherry, and a gazillion inserts. Instead, dear Daddy HANDWASHES Luna's diapers nearly every night on the washboard with his red gloves and a bar of baby laundry soap. I love my husband. He enjoys washing Luna's dirty diapers and makes sure that they're spick and span clean. It's his expression of love among other expressions. I should really get a picture of him washing the diapers...and post it up! haha I need proof for when the teenage Luna blurts that Daddy is super mean and doesn't care (though I don't think we'll ever have a problem like that! *fingers crossed*)
I think I'm going to look up some other review of other pocket diapers (I'm thinking of gDiapers) and see if I can get another one.
Lastly, after my last post, I decided that I need a better name for my blog. I've already changed it once, but my brain can't think of anything I like. bleh. help?
FINALLY, I leave you with this freakin adorable picture!! This is her duck face/kissy face/pucker face/call it what you want. I love my Luna!! Who wouldn't love this adorable face?!
